Stuart Smellie BSc DC FCC FEAC

Stuart graduated in 1991 and was amongst the first in the country to be awarded a degree in chiropractic. He is a Fellow of both the College of Chiropractors and the European Academy of Chiropractic. After establishing himself in North Wiltshire, he formed Skelian Clinics which grew into a successful group of 7 practices around the Midlands. This included the purchase of The Parker Clinic in 2002. He now divides his time between his Clinic in Cheltenham and The Parker Clinic in Bristol.

During the 1990s Stuart held offices on the executive councils of both the British Chiropractic Association and the College of Chiropractors. For a number of years he was responsible for the Vocational Training for new graduates and was appointed director of pre-registration training for the College of Chiropractors and chairman of post graduate education for the European Chiropractors Union. He is currently a registered trainer for the UK Pre-Registration Training Scheme.

Stuart has a special interest in ergonomics and is dedicated to evidence-based practice. He is married with 3 children and lives just outside Cheltenham where his wife, Vivien, is a General Practitioner.


Katriona Heaslip

Katriona Heaslip MSc DC MCC

Katriona graduated in 1999 from the Anglo-European College of Chiropractic with a first class honours degree. She grew up in Ireland but came to England in order to study chiropractic. She has come to love Bristol, especially the Bishopston area with its sense of community and family. She is passionate about the role of chiropractic within mainstream healthcare and particularly enjoys treating pregnant mothers and babies.

She has completed post-graduate courses in Sacro-Occipital Technique (SOT) and in 2005 was awarded a certificate in SOT. Katriona has found this technique to be especially helpful in treating conditions that have been unresponsive to previous types of care.

Katriona is marred to Simon Bodley (see below) and they have a young daughter, Roisin, who was born in July 2008.  After a spell of maternity leave, Katriona returned to work part-time in March 2009.


Simon Bodley

Simon Bodley MSc DC CCEP MCC

Simon graduated from the Anglo-European College of Chiropractors in 1999. Initially he worked in clinics in Essex and Wiltshire before settling in Bristol. He is now a partner in The Parker Clinic.

Although he treats all kind of patient and all age groups his main interests are sports injuries and in 2005 he completed a post-graduate course to become a Certified Chiropractic Extremities Practitioner (CCEP). He enjoys being able to help every type of sports person, whether a professional or a weekend enthusiast, to reach their full potential. He plays a mean round of golf and isn't too bad on a football pitch.

He believes that restoring movement and function to the body allows it to heal, and is constantly surprised by the power of body's own natural healing ability that allows it to recover from serious injuries. He is a firm believer in the importance of rehabilitation of the injured tissues through exercise.

 

Joanna Ladd

Joanna obtained a four year BSc (Hons) in Chiropractic from the Welsh Institute of Chiropractic in the University of Glamorgan. Since graduating Joanna has worked as an associate chiropractor in a clinic in Essex and progressed to senior chiropractor. She has continued to expand her career with a variety of post-graduate education developing particular interests in chiropractic care of women during pregnancy, infants and children.

She is dedicated to provide care for as many people as possible, not only with regards to pain relief but also to educate people about achieving optimal physical health through chiropractic.

Joanna originally comes from Bristol and is very happy to return to her roots after spending a year travelling the world. There's no place like home.

 

Nina Holligsworth

Nina Hollingsworth BSc(Hons) DC

Originally from Northern Ireland, Nina travelled across the water to South Wales where she obtained a first class honours degree in Chiropractic from the University of Glamorgan in 2002.  Nina moved to Bristol to follow her dream to work with pregnant women and children and has undergone extensive post-graduate training in pregnancy, paediatrics and a gentle chiropractic technique called the Sacro-Occipital Technique.

While treating pregnant women and children are her passion, Nina also likes to (and does) treat people of all ages and with all varieties of complaints !

Nina started a period of maternity leave in March 2010 and plans to return to the clinic, and her many loyal patients, later in the year.

 

Ruth Choma

Ruth Choma MChiro

Ruth graduated from the Anglo-European College of Chiropractic in 2009. She joined The Parker Clinic in March 2010 after completing her first chiropractic position near Manchester.  Ruth is a Canadian who brings with her years of experience in both nursing and clinical research.  She loves England and is enjoying putting down some roots in Bristol.

To "Be the Best You Can Be" is a motivating principle for Ruth and she believes that it can be applied to the health and well-being of everyone, from the youngest to the oldest.  She is passionate about introducing Chiropractic care into the family to achieve optimal health and prevent those aches and pains in the future.  Ruth often guides and advises patients to particular exercise regimes that will help maintain good health and further prevent problems occurring.

 

Acupuncturist

Al completed 4 years training in acupuncture, at the College of Integrated Chinese Medicine, Reading, and International College of Oriental Medicine, East Grinstead.

He was the acupuncturist at Terence Higgins's Trust in Bristol for 2 years. As well as working at the Parker Clinic, he also practices at Bedminster Family Practice, a busy GP's Surgery. He is a member of the British Acupuncture Council (BAcC), which carries with it strict codes of ethics and professional conduct. In addition, Al is also a qualified Social Worker with experience in Mental Health Work.

Al has a special interest in treating stress, which is a contributing factor to many of today's health problems. He is happy to offers a free 20 minute consultation, if you would like to find out if acupuncture can help you.

 

Massage Therapist

Sarah discovered her passion for massage in 2001. Working as a computer programmer in a multi-national company and feeling like a fish out of water, she was looking to bring something new into her life. Once massage started getting under her skin she realized she was on her way into a very different life.

Sarah was awarded the MTI Diploma in Holistic Massage, Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology in 2001 and has been a registered practitioner with the Massage Training Institute (MTI) ever since. She has practiced massage in Bristol since 2002 and joined The Parker Clinic in May 2007. Sarah is dedicated to continually developing her quality of touch and awareness in order to offer the highest quality massage. She regularly attends workshops with respected bodyworkers and further supports her professional and personal development with an ongoing monthly supervision group. Sarah also teaches professional massage courses and introductory workshops with BCMB. She loves the teaching - it's another way to share the massage joy.

We have four fantastic receptionists who manage to keep things running smoothly despite the hinderance of working with 4 individual, demanding, disorganised chiropractors, one massage therapist and an acupuncturist.
